Legal Liability of Professional Engineers: The Case of a Fire at a Shopping Center

In this paper, the authors discuss the legal liabilities of the professional engineer as both the engineer of record of a project and the construction site manager. In particular, this paper analyzes the case of a fire at an end-user MV/LV substation of a shopping center in Italy, occurred a few years after maintenance works on the electrical installation. The professional engineer who had designed and overseen the construction of the substation was accused of criminal negligence. The absolute center of a unicyclic network

Abstract A unicyclic network is one generalization of a tree network. In this paper we examine the problem of finding an absolute center of a unicyclic network. We show that this problem can be solved in linear time with respect to the number of vertices in the network.

Homological Projective Duality for Determinantal Varieties

In this paper we prove Homological Projective Duality for crepant categorical resolutions of several classes of linear determinantal varieties. By this we mean varieties that are cut out by the minors of a given rank of a n x m matrix of linear forms on a given projective space. As applications, we obtain pairs of derived-equivalent Calabi-Yau manifolds, and address a question by A. Bondal asking whether the derived category of any smooth projective variety can be fully faithfully embedded in the derived category of a smooth Fano variety. Moreover we discuss the relation between rationality and categorical representability in codimension two for determinantal varieties.

A note on strong protomodularity, actions and quotients

Abstract In order to study the problems of extending an action along a quotient of the acted object and along a quotient of the acting object, we investigate some properties of the fibration of points. In fact, we obtain a characterization of protomodular categories among quasi-pointed regular ones, and, in the semi-abelian case, a characterization of strong protomodular categories. Eventually, we return to the initial questions by stating the results in terms of internal actions.

When are profinite many-sorted algebras retracts of ultraproducts of finite many-sorted algebras?

For a set of sorts $S$ and an $S$-sorted signature $\Sigma$ we prove that a profinite $\Sigma$-algebra, i.e., a projective limit of a projective system of finite $\Sigma$-algebras, is a retract of an ultraproduct of finite $\Sigma$-algebras if the family consisting of the finite $\Sigma$-algebras underlying the projective system is with constant support. In addition, we provide a categorial rendering of the above result. Mental health care policies call for health-promoting and recovery-oriented interventions, as well as community-based programs supporting healthier habits. The purpose of this study was to explore how individuals facing mental health challenges experienced participating in tailored exercise at a community-based activity center, and what role tailored exercise could play in supporting an individual’s process of recovery. Masses and magnetic moments of ground-state baryons in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory

We report on some recent developments in our understanding of the light-quark mass dependence and the SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking corrections to the magnetic moments of the ground-state baryons in a covariant formulation of baryon chiral perturbation theory, the so-called EOMS formulation. We show that this covariant ChPT exhibits some promising features compared to its heavy-baryon and infrared counterparts.
